Hi, I'm Nichola...
the florist and flower grower at IGF. I'm so glad you've dropped by to visit my website and I hope you have enjoyed scrolling through.
So a bit about me... I initially started a career in Children's services working for nearly 20yrs in various roles supporting children and families. Being a huge flower fanatic I had also completed a floristry qualification way back in 2006 and RHS gardening course in 2018. I had delved into the floristry world working freelance and providing friends and family with wedding flowers and more. In 2017 I decided the time was right to dive in and start my own flower business. Working from my home studio I now focus on providing gorgeous blooms for weddings, workshops and seasonal door wreaths.
I was becoming increasingly concerned of the environmental impact from the florist industry. The carbon footprint of flowers flown in from overseas, chemicals used to extent the vase life of flowers and the endless amount of plastic packaging and single use plastics of floral foam. So I decided to make certain changes in my business.
I've ditched all single use plastic and floral foam opting for recycled paper for packaging and moss instead of floral foam.
In 2018 I started growing my own flowers from an allotment plot in North Essex. Seasonal, organic and scented with the occasional wonky stem! From this I can provide a small amount of flowers for my work.
I will always source British flowers first and I have made good links with local flower farmers and UK wholesale.
I will always be honest about what material I use and where I have sourced them from.
Like most of us, I just want to be doing my best to contribute towards a more sustainable future so this is my starting point and I'm always to improve and learning more.
